Isn't it hard to believe that Christmas is already here? Tomorrow is already Christmas Eve. I cannot believe it! Talk about being stressed out for the past two weeks!
This past month has been nothing but non-stop shopping, decorating and stressing out. Before we know it, all of that hard work is going to be gone just like that. Those late night hours of wrapping presents will be torn to pieces in a matter of minutes and that huge holiday meal you have worked all week on will be gone in an hour. It's amazing!
I am supposed to be writing about sports in my weekly columns, but I feel this week will be an exception with it being Christmas.
That being said, I would like to talk about an e-mail I received from a couple I know in Florida.
Let me tell you, they love their e-mails. I think I receive anywhere from two-10 a day from them. And not just the “chatting” e-mails. I'm talking about the funny e-mails and occasional chain letters, which I really do not like!
Anyway they sent one my way about Christmas and what it has turned into.
When you're a kid, you know that Christmas is by far the best day of the year! Santa comes, you get tons of presents, you can stuff your face full of food and not worry about how many calories you just munched on, we all remeber those days right?
Well the older I get the more I realize…Wow! This holiday has really turned into something it shouldn't be.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's great to buy everyone gifts and spend time with your family, but it seems we are not celebrating the true meaning of Christmas anymore.
People save all year long for this holiday season. Kids now days are getting $500 plus worth of gifts and the stress that comes with this holiday is just crazy.
What happened to getting together with family and just celebrating life and what we have?
Most people celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, others just celebrate…well just because it's Christmas.
Don't get me wrong here, Christmas is my favorite time of year and yes, I do like receiving gifts, but I don't need 25….I don't even need five!
It seems this has become the holiday of “Who can get the most gifts and buy the most expensive things.”
Not me! I put myself on a budget this year and know a lot of people who have.
So next year and hopefully for years to come, think about what Christmas is really about. What's most important to you? If it's maxing out your credit card, then you should probably take a deeper look into the true meaning of Christmas.
This holiday shouldn't be about stressing out and breaking your bank, it's supposed to be a time of celebration, family and being happy.
I want to wish everyone a very safe and stress-free Christmas.
Enjoy the holiday weekend!!
