BUCHANAN — Participating in an upcoming night of trivia, food, drinks and friendly competition could lead to more merriment across Buchanan in the months ahead.
The Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce will host its fourth annual Bucktown Trivia Night fundraiser Feb. 29 at the Buchanan Area Senior Center, 810 Rynearson St., Buchanan. Proceeds will go to both the senior center and the chamber to fund future programs.
The doors and cash bar will open at 5 p.m., a full dinner will be served at 6 p.m., and seven rounds of trivia will begin at 7 p.m. People must be 21 and older to participate.
The cost is $25 per person, but teams can be assembled. A team of eight will receive a discount, $190.
Participants could end up earning a profit, however. The winning individual or team of trivia night will receive $250 in cash.
In between trivia rounds, each a different category, participants can enter minigames for $1. Winners of games such as “Rock, Paper, Scissors” and “Never Have I Ever” will receive gift baskets donated by Buchanan businesses.
Reservations are required and can be made by visiting buchanan.mi.us or by calling (269) 695-3291.
“We want to offer people the chance to get out for a night in the cold winter months to go to a place that is just live and full of people who are passionate about giving back to the community in a really fun way,” said Stacey Dodson, secretary for the chamber board and a master of ceremonies for Bucktown Trivia Night.
The night is more than a competition, she said. It is a chance for people who appreciate the Buchanan area to enjoy company, food, drink and games.
The night is also a chance to promote both the chamber, the business community and Buchanan. Ultimately, one trivia event could help solidify Buchanan as a place to live, work and play, drawing in more residents, tourists and business, Dodson said.
That is because the night does not only bring in people across Michiana into Buchanan, its proceeds also support Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce events.
That includes community events, such as the Christmas parade, holiday lights ceremony and a chili walk. Business benefits such as monthly PERC breakfasts and ribbon-cutting ceremonies are funded partially by Bucktown Trivia Night, too.
Dodson said the Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce is so active in the community because it truly believes Buchanan is a small town. She called the city “the best kept secret” of the county.
“We feel a responsibility not only to our business members but to our community to be able to make an impact and offer events that draw people into our town” Dodson said.
