KNOXVILLE - Jay Teter's original song, “A Mom Like You,” impressed the “Nashville Star” judges enough to beat out nearly 20,000 competitors, snagging a spot as a regional finalist for Season 4 of USA Network's hit show.
The Nashville Star production team narrowed the field of contestants down to 43 hopefuls, who will compete at the Regional Finals for a shot at being country music's next sensation.
Regionals will take place in Houston on Jan. 3-4 and in Nashville on Jan. 6-7.
From there, the final cast will be chosen on Jan. 10.
The season premiere airs on Tuesday, March 7, 2006.
In the next round, Teter will compete against the regional winners to become one of 10 finalists.
Those 10 finalists will appear on USA Network's “Nashville Star” starting on March 7.
The national winner will get a national recording contract.
But unlike “American Idol,” “Nashville Star” requires contestants to not only sing a song from an approved list, but to perform an original song they have written.
Teter has had three songs hit the Top 40 Music Row Country Charts: “Football, Beer and You,” “Cowboy Ride” and “Until You Find Your Mr. Right,” all of which are on his recently released album, jayteter.com. Teter's album is available at Wal-Mart stores and other major retailers nationwide.
Teter has performed for more than 7.5 million people in his career.
including weekly performances as Head Master of Ceremonies at Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Forge, Tenn; weekly performances at Wal-Mart stores throughout the Southeast; as well as other scheduled concerts around the country including a recent show at the FYE store in Lansing, Mich., and an acoustic showcase performance during the week-long Country Music Awards celebration in New York City.
