SILVER CREEK TOWNSHIP — A Decatur man was killed Sunday morning in Silver Creek Township crash, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Richard Behnke reported that at approximately 3:45 a.m. Sunday, his office was called to investigate a single-vehicle personal injury accident resulting in a fatality near the intersection of California Road and Yaw Street in Silver Creek Township.

Investigation shows that a 24-year-old Decatur resident, Eduardo Mendoza, was driving east on Yaw Street when he lost control of the vehicle and drove off the roadway, causing his vehicle to overturn multiple times, ejecting him from his vehicle. Mendoza was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Alcohol use is unknown at this time, and speed does appear to be a factor in this crash, according to deputies. Seatbelts were not used at the time of the accident.

This case remains under investigation.

Assisting deputies at the scene were the Dowagiac Police Department, Pokagon Tribal Police, Indian Lake Fire Department, Dowagiac Fire Department and Pridecare Ambulance.
