DOWAGIAC — Despite the hot temperatures last weekend, Dowagiac’s 34th annual Summer in the City event hosted by the Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce attracted visitors, community members and a number of local vendors for more than 50 hours of entertainment and family fun.

Vendors were accommodating to event attendees by providing bottled water. Local businesses cranked up their air conditioning and welcomed people inside for shopping and meals as a break to cool off from the sun.

“All of the merchants have been just good to festival goers in terms of handing out waters and having them come in off the street to cool down,” said Vicki Phillipson, chamber of commerce program director.

Attendance numbers were not collected by the time of press, but Phillipson said Saturday’s event had been lighter on the streets due to heat advisories in place.

“It’s understandable. We want everyone to be safe,” Phillipson said.
