Dowagiac man arrested for drug possession, outstanding warrants

DOWAGIAC — Dowagiac Police have arrested a subject for possession of meth and several outstanding warrants.

The arrest occurred at approximately 12:05 a.m. Saturday, when a Dowagiac officer was traveling south on M-51 South near Lyle Drive.  The officer observed a male subject riding a bicycle in the middle/left turn lane of M-51 South without any lights on the bicycle or reflective clothing on. 

The bike rider continued to travel north on M-51 South and turned into the parking lot of the Family Fare grocery store. The officer made contact with the bike rider and recognized him as a subject that the officer had dealt with in the past.  Upon checking, it was determined that the subject had four valid bench warrants out for his arrest. 

The suspect, a 31-year-old man from Dowagiac, was arrested on the warrants.

After placing the suspect under arrest, K9 Tole was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics in the backpack that the suspect was wearing when he was arrested.  Upon searching the backpack, officers located a quantity of meth as well as several meth smoking pipes and other meth paraphernalia. The suspect was also arrested for possession of meth.

He was lodged at the Cass County Jail on the charges.

The suspect’s name is being withheld pending his arraignment in Cass County 4th District Court.  All charges are pending authorization from the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.
