Buchanan, Brandywine, Niles players honored by coaches

NILES — The postseason baseball honors are beginning to roll in for Buchanan, Brandywine and Niles in the BCS Athletic Conference Red Division and SMAC West Division.

All-Red Division

The Bucks, the Red Division champs, landed five players on the first team.

Brad VanOverberghe, Jacob Hoover, Austin Williams, Dedrick Adkerson and Brandon Rogers were all selected by the BCS coaches.

Ty Mickiewicz was the lone first-team pick for the Bobcats. Gabe Gouin was an honorable mention, while Shane Brown and Cameron Barrier were special mention selections.

“I am extremely proud of the recognition of these young guys,” said Brandywine coach David Sidenbender. “They were instrumental to our success this season.”

Mickiewicz was 6-4 on the mound with one save for the Bobcats. He had an ERA of 1.56 and struck out 80 batters in 58.1 innings pitched.

VanOverberghe was 6-1 on the mound with an ERA of 1.04. He struck out 39 in 47 innings pitched, while Hoover was 6-2 with an ERA of 1.78. He struck out 70 in 51 innings pitched.

Adkerson hit .353 with five doubles, a triple and 18 RBIs. Williams hit .385 with one double, two triples and 24 RBIs, while Rogers hit .310 with four doubles and 20 RBIs.

All-West Division

Cole Simpson and Cade Vota were the lone Niles representatives on the SMAC All-West Division team, which was dominated by champion Portage Central with six first-team selections, and Lakeshore, which had five first-team picks.

Simpson went 2-7 on the mound with an ERA of 3.76. He struck out 44 in 48.3 innings pitched.

Vota hit .377 with seven doubles and six RBIs.
