Edwardsburg, Niles players selected by district coaches

EDWARDSBURG — District champion Lakeshore and runner-up Edwardsburg combined to put nine players on the Division 2 All-District team, which was selected following the district tournament last week.
The Lancers placed five players on the team, including Oli Carmody, who is the son of former Dowagiac standout Rick Carmody.
The Eddies had four players named to the team, which is the first step in earning Division 2 All-State honors.
Players who are selected for all-district are eligible to earn all-region recognition whether or not their team advances in the state tournament.
All-region honorees from Edwardsburg were infielder Conner Ostrander, outfielder Caden Goggins, utility player Jonah Sibley and pitcher Mac Gaideski.
Former Chieftain standout and current Lakeshore coach Mark Nate was selected as Coach of the Year.
Niles had a pair of players earn all-district honors.
Cade Vota was selected as a catcher and Cole Simpson as a pitcher.
Ostrander, a freshman, hit .327 for the Eddies with eight doubles, a home run and 33 RBIs.
Goggins hit .336 with seven doubles, two triples, two home runs and 27 RBIs. while Sibley hit .417 with 17 doubles, a home run and 43 RBIs.
Gaideski was 4-1 for Edwardsburg with an ERA of 1.36. He struck out 30 batters in 36 innings pitched.
Vota hit .377 for the Vikings with seven doubles and six RBIs.
Simpson was 2-7 with an ERA of 3.76. He struck out 44 in 48.3 innings pitched.
