Illinois man in critical condition after falling off dock

PENN TOWNSHIP — An Illinois man was injured in a water accident Saturday afternoon, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies were called to the scene in the 17000 block of Donnell Lake Street in Penn Township at 4:31 p.m. Saturday. Parish Swanson, 50, of Aurora, Illinois, was out on the dock near the lake playing with his sons when Parish was pushed off the lock and into the lake.

After a brief unknown time under water, the sons brought him back to shore.

CPR was initiated before he was taken by Life Care Ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital, where he was listed as in critical condition.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Cass County Marine Division, Penn Township Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance.

Three Rivers woman injured after swerving to miss deer

NEWBERG TOWNSHIP — A Three Rivers resident was injured in an auto accident caused by a deer in Newberg Township early Sunday morning, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.

Misty Barnes, 51, of Three Rivers, was traveling north on Save Road near Born Street in Newberg Township when a deer ran out in front of her.

She served to avoid the deer, lost control, went off the roadway and struck a tree.

Newberg Fire Department discovered the crash while en route to another personal injury crash.  Barnes was transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment.

Assisting were SEPSA ambulance service, Newberg Ambulance service and Newberg Fire Department.

Speed, alcohol factors in crash with man thrown from truck bed

NEWBERG TOWNSHIP — A 28-year-old was injured after falling out of the bed of a pickup in Newberg Township around 4 a.m. Sunday, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.

Police were called to the scene on Hoffman Street near Kirk Lake Road in Newberg Township at 4:04 a.m.

Santana Mosher, 21, of Marcellus, was traveling south on Cox Road through the curve onto Hoffman Street when Bryan Parson, 28, fell out of the bed of the pickup truck where he was riding.

Parson was treated for his injuries by Newberg Ambulance and transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.

Speed and alcohol have been ruled factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Assisting agencies include Newberg Township Fire Department, Newberg Ambulance and Life Care Ambulance.
