Josh Kiggins is a volunteer with the Dowagiac Little League. He currently resides in Dowagiac.
How long have you been volunteering with little league?
Seven years for baseball and five years for football.
What do you do as a volunteer?
Coach children. I do whatever is needed. I coach my son. I just like to coach kids and get to know them and help them understand the game and learn and improve on their game.
Why did you choose to volunteer with little league?
I just love the sport. My son asked me to coach and I told him I would and I have been doing it ever since.
What do you enjoy most about your work as a volunteer?
Spending time with the kids, getting to learn with them and watching them grow. I started with baseball and football and now I coach high school football as well, so half the kids I started coaching in baseball, I now coach in high school so I’ve watched them for the last seven years and I know these kids. It’s a small-town community and I love it.
Why would you encourage other people to get involved in volunteering?
You always need volunteers, whether its concessions or coaching or anything like that. You get to meet these kids and parents and teach them the game of sports.
