CASSOPOLIS — The 2019 Diamond Lake Triathlon is scheduled for June 19 at the Diamond Lake Yacht Club in Cassopolis.
The triathlon, which benefits a local triathlete Alex Stscherban, who suffered a cardiac arrest following a local Michiana triathlon event needs our support. Alex’s rehabilitation costs and medical care have far exceeded his healthcare benefits.
Additionally, the Diamond Lake Triathlon has expanded its charitable vision by adding the Challenged Athletes Foundation to its benefactor roster.
“With that said, we need racers, sponsors and volunteers to make sure our event and mission are successful,” said race director Joe Fazzini. “Please also visit Facebook and Instagram to see updates and photos of the upcoming event.”
The Sprint Individual Triathlon will get things started at 7:30 a.m. along with the Sprint Team Relay Triathlon.
The Sprint Triathlon consists of a 500-yard swim in Diamond Lake, a 12-mile bike ride and a 3.3-mile run.
The cost for the individual triathlon is $65 plus a $3.90 signup fee before July 18. The price increases to $70 after that date.
Cost for the team relay is $85 plus a $5.10 signup fee before July 18 and $90 after that date.
Volunteers are still needed for a variety of jobs, including:
• Swim course (on shore)
• Swim course (on water)
• Bike course
• Run course
• Transition area
• Timing
• Body marking
• Refreshments
• Parking
• Aid stations
• Packet pick-up and registration.
