DOWAGIAC — A pair of late first-half goals by visiting South Haven lifted the Rams to a 5-1 Wolverine Conference win over Dowagiac Wednesday night.
The Chieftains got on the scoreboard first when Martha Schaller scored on a direct kick.
But with the time running out in the first half, South Haven scored back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
The Rams scored quickly in the second half and added a pair of goals late to cap the scoring.
“South Haven scored three goals on free kicks in the field of play,” said Dowagiac coach Chad Davis. “Despite the score, the girls played extremely hard tonight. We gave up some easy goals, but I was very proud of how the girls played.”
The Chieftains are 2-3-2 on the year and 0-2 in league matches.
Cassopolis soccer
The Rangers continued to struggle to score goals as Lake Michigan Catholic defeated Cassopolis 6-1 in a non-league match Wednesday.
Aysia Conley scored the lone goal for the Rangers in the first half off an assist by Bianca McGee.
The Lakers outshot the Rangers 22-3. Cherwasha Hill had 16 saves for Cassopolis.
“We’re still struggling with our young, inexperienced midfield,” said Cassopolis coach Kevin Waldschmidt.
Edwardsburg soccer
Leah Johnson scored a pair of goals for host Vicksburg as it blanked Edwardsburg 4-0 in Wolverine Conference play Wednesday night.
Alain Wurfel and Taylor Bays had the other two goals for the Bulldogs.
The Eddies drop to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in Wolverine Conference action.
