DOWAGIAC — The sisters of Xi Delta Mu Sorority recently presented a check for $2,340 to Fitch Camp Director Chris Cox and board member Sheriff Richard Behnke. The money was raised from proceeds from the March 14 soup luncheon to help support student tuition at Fitch Camp. At the soup luncheon, 400 meals were served.

E. Root Fitch Memorial Camp was born during World War II and has been an inspiration and a tradition since, said officials. Donations keep camp tuition, lunch and a daily snack at $1 a day.

At Fitch Camp, youth participate in traditional water sports like swimming, canoeing and fishing; team sports like soccer, kickball, softball and volleyball; nature hikes, and some creative activities like octopus, mudslides and steal the bacon. 

Students are supervised by high school and college-aged counselors who are certified in first aid and CPR as well as three certified lifeguards.

Xi Delta Mu members said they would like to thank the First United Methodist Church, women from sister Chapters Kappa Beta and Alpha Upsilon Master and the community of Dowagiac and beyond.
