DOWAGIAC — There seems to be no stopping the Edwardsburg golf team.

The Eddies won their 11th consecutive Wolverine Conference jamboree as they shot 164 at Cheshire Hills in Allegan Monday.

Host Allegan was the runner-up with a 178, while Dowagiac finished fourth with a 189. It was the best showing for the Chieftains this season in a jamboree.

“Last night was the second time in four jamborees that we have not used our No. 1 man’s score,” said Dowagiac coach Bob Turner. “We finished the best we have this year, fourth, so that is not a knock on the guys whose score did not count, it is a positive because we have five guys shooting scores that can be used.”

Due to the closeness of the scores, Turner said that if one player falters, another can pick them up.

“We can afford to have a guy have a bad day and our team is still in decent shape,” he said. “It should help us in the long run. We have a lot of golf to play in the next three weeks, hopefully we can stay focused.”

Edwardsburg leads Allegan 40-34 in the overall standings. South Haven is third with 30 points and Dowagiac fourth with 22, one point better than Plainwell and two better than Three Rivers.

Satchel Pierce of Edwardsburg was once again the medalist as he shot a 37.

Dowagiac was led by Drew Davis, who shot 44.

Currently, Pierce leads the race for conference medalist with a stroke average of 38.250. Allegan’s Remi Franklin is second at 39.250, while Brayden Bell of Edwardsburg is third at 41.75.

Davis is currently 15th in the all-conference race with stroke average of 48.00. Davis has only competed in two of the four jamborees due to a back injury that forced him to miss the start of the season.
