What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
KS: My greatest accomplishment as an athlete was when I had a tennis tournament be rained out and moved indoors at a different time. So, I had to hurry and play three back-to-back matches and then drive an hour for state for solo and ensemble. I ended up finishing first in the tournament and a Division 2 rating at state.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
KS: My biggest disappointment as an athlete was when I was up in a match and then ending up losing and going into a tiebreak and losing. I had lost all my stamina.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
KS: In my life, my mother is my hero. She does such an outstanding job of raising my sister and I.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
KS: I am the most nervous at the start of a tennis match.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
KS: My most embarrassing athletic moment was when I was at tennis practice, and I had went to hit a ball and accidentally threw my racket.
How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?
KS: In my offseason, I like to play as much as I can. Whether it is with friends or with USTA. I also like to play WII and Mario tennis.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
KS: I would like to get back into playing volleyball.
Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?
KS: Sports are so important when in high school because it’s like you are a part of a whole new family. You receive so much love and support from your teammates. You also become friends with people you probably didn’t think you would be friends with.
How would you give away $50,000?
KS: If I had $50,000, I would donate half to the Brandywine choir program and the other half to the Brandywine tennis program.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
KS: I would coach a team if younger or beginning tennis players to help them start out.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
KS: If I did not play sports, I would read and paint a lot more.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
KS: The most challenging thing for me in my sport is keeping up my stamina. Towards the end of the game, I tend to not be able to run as fast as I would before.
If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?
KS: I would change the way you do a tie breaker. They are so weird and difficult.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
KS: The best compliment I have ever received was how well overall of a tennis player I have become.
What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?
KS: The scariest thing I have ever done was go into a tennis practice over the summer. I had absolutely no idea how to play. I didn’t know anyone at the practice. I didn’t even know the coaches. I’m super glad that I did it. If I wouldn’t have done, it I probably never would’ve tried out for the team.
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
KS: The last thing I saw someone do that really impressed me was when I was at a SWMVF practice and there was a pause in a song and one person just started to sing a solo. He sang it so well it was added to the performance.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
KS: My favorite hobby is either reading or playing tennis. The feeling of excitement while playing tennis is the best. I love reading because it’s like getting lost in another world.
Choose one word to describe yourself:
KS: Persistent.
