NILES – The Niles District Library seeks to build a community of lifelong learners who want to make Niles their lifelong home. A library card is not required to participate in any programs. All programs are free.

Tuesday, March 19

10:30 to 11 a.m. — Passport pals

The community is invited to participate in this story time tour of the world. Each week, the library will have books, songs, a craft, and other super surprises relating to the special country of the month. Participants can also get their passport stamped.

6 to 7 p.m. — STEM stars

Each week, Meg will teach participants about a different STEM topic.  This program is complete with a read aloud, and a project to work on.

6:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Cosplay on a budget with Tara Carnage

Those interested in cosplay are invited to take part in the fun at Fandom Fest and Cosplay a favorite character or enter the Cosplay Contest. People are invited to join Tara Carnage Cosplay, an experienced cosplayer from South Bend, for a look at how awesome costumes can be assembled with a little creativity and without spending a lot of money.

This program is open to teens and adults.

Wednesday, March 20

9 to 10:30 a.m. — Drop-in Book Club

For those wondering what to read next, this club might help. The community is invited to join as the library discusses and recommends books in this new style of book club. Each month, a different genre of literature is chosen and each book club member reads a different book in that genre. At the meetings, participants will discuss what they liked about the book so others can get a recommendation. 

Multiple times — Storytime day

Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m., squeakers (18 months-3 years) at 10 a.m., squigglers (18 months-5 years) at 10:30 a.m., story time (children ages 3+) at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

6:30 to 8 p.m. — Readers circle book group

Readers Circle members seek to have enlightening and thought-provoking conversations about books from a wide variety of genres.  This is an ideal place for serious book lovers and new members are welcome.  Books are available at the Information Desk.

7 to 8 p.m. — Happy destiny group

The purpose of A.A. group meetings is for A.A. members to share their experience, strength, and hope with each other so that they may solve their common problem and to help others recover from alcoholism. Open meetings are available to anyone interest in the program or recovery.

Friday, March 22

9:30 a.m. to noon — TOPS

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a nonprofit, noncommercial weight-loss support group and wellness education organization.

1 to 3 p.m. — Twisted Stitches

The community is invited to bring their yarn or sewing project and enjoy a hot beverage while they chat and work. Rookies are welcome. David, the teacher, will help to provide instructions. A few loaner tools are available.

2 to 4 p.m. — All ages hangout

All ages and abilities are welcome to drop in to play games, make crafts, whatever they like.

Saturday, March 23

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Gamer space

This activity is ideal for gamers looking for a place to play card games or Tabletop games. The library will provide the space and participants are welcome to bring games.

10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Fly fishing for beginners

Jason Kinder is an avid fly fisherman who is going to share what he has learned in his years of fly fishing. People are welcome to join him for a fly fishing talk and casting demo. He’ll teach the basics of fly fishing.
