BRIDGMAN — The only thing on Brandywine coach Josh Hood’s mind was not to fall victim to March Magic.
His nerves were put at ease after a short night of the girls district quarterfinal as the fifth-ranked Bobcats overwhelmed a winless Eau Claire team 60-6 in the Division 3 district opener Monday night.
Brandywine sat four of their starters throughout the game, giving his younger players and those who were bumped up from the junior varsity some valuable tournament experience.
“It was a great team win,” Hood said. “The girls worked extremely hard on defense and shot the ball extremely well. We came out to start out on fire, and we got what we needed to be successful.”
Brandywine tied a school record hitting 15 3-pointers and forcing 37 turnovers. Overall, the Bobcats shot 47 percent from the field.
“We usually don’t have that kind of luck playing in this gym (Bridgman), so now we can move forward with this momentum,” Hood said.
Brandywine was led by junior Bethany Duval and sophomore Alysia Adamczyk with 13 points each. Sophomore Malikkah Abdullah added 11 points.
Brandywine (19-2) will play tonight in the district semifinals against Hartford (11-8). Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
