Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Dashawn Brooks

Dashawn Brooks is a junior on the Dowagiac boys basketball team.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
DB: Almost going to Little League World Series.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
DB: Losing at state.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
DB: My grandma. She made me feel like I was the best at everything.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
DB: I’m never nervous because I know they have to play like I do.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
DB: Getting struck out.
How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?
DB: The weight room. Everything starts in the weight room.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
DB: Track, but I cannot because I play baseball.
Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?
DB: They make you feel what family is like if your home life is bad.
How would you give away $50,000?
DB: To local sports organizations to make things better for the kids.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
DB: Dowagiac football.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
DB: I don’t know what I would do, because all I know is sports.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
DB: Make a play or basket when the game is on the line.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
DB: “Best shortstop I have seen at this level.”
What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?
DB: Take a chance at anything. I’m very glad I did it.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
DB: Play PS4, because it is fun when you have free time.
