Cade Best is a senior on the Niles wrestling team.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
CB: My biggest accomplishment as a athlete at Niles would be that I was a part of a final four state wrestling team.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
CB: My biggest disappointment as an athlete would be losing my match while wrestling Lakeshore’s 189-pounder because it was my job to beat him and I didn’t do my job.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
CB: A hero in my life would either be Todd Hessen and/or my father Ryan Best, because they have always pushed me to be the best athlete and person I can become on and off the mat.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
CB: If I wasn’t a wrestler, I would love to be a basketball player because I want to be as athletic and skilled as they are. It is every wrestler’s dream to play basketball, but we are not made to play it and that is why we wrestle.
Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?
CB: Sports are a huge part of the high school experience because of all the friendships and work ethics. I have gained. Not only has wrestling been a fun sport with my friends in high school, it has taught me more about how to act outside of the sport and prepared me for life on many levels. I would like to thank Todd Hessen and my other coaches for that.
How would you give away $50,000?
CB: If I would give away $50,000, I would give it back to the community and the kids that don’t have the money for wrestling camps and programs in our wrestling family because they don’t just deal with hard practices, they deal with a hard home life and not having things that us fortune people do. I think this would be a great opportunity for them to have a fresh start and bring them closer to the wrestling family.
