DOWAGIAC — Police believe speed to be a factor in a rollover crash on M-51 South in Dowagiac Friday.
When officers arrived at the 58000 block of M-51 at 4:51 p.m. Friday, they found a Cadillac CTS upside down on top of a small tree, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
The driver, Zackery Sparks, 19, had left the scene of the accident, but was later found and transported to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac for his injuries.
Deputies made contact with the two other passengers, a 16-year-old Dowagiac resident, and Vinessa Snider, 19, of Dowagiac. Both were transported to the hospital by family.
Initial investigation shows that Sparks attempted to pass another vehicle on the right shoulder while driving north on M-51. Sparks lost control of the vehicle, then slid sideways, rolled, and landed on the roof of the vehicle on the side of the road.
Seat belts were worn during the crash, and speed is believed to be a factor.
Pokagon Tribal Police and PrideCare Ambulance assisted with the crash.
