Police name victim in fatal motorcycle crash

POKAGON TOWNSHIP — Police have named the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Monday afternoon.
Thirty-two-year-old Ryan Glen Grady has been identified as the victim of crash that took place at 2:53 p.m. Monday at the intersection of M-51 S. and Pokagon Street in Pokagon Township.
Preliminary investigation shows that Dowagiac police attempted a traffic stop on a motorcycle in the area of N. Paul and Spruce streets in the city of Dowagiac. Dowagiac Police had activated their overhead lights in attempt to make a traffic stop, but observed the motorcycle accelerate at a high rate of speed. The overhead lights were deactivated at this time by officers, and police did not give chase.
Soon after, Cass County dispatch received several 911 calls in regards to a motorcycle that crashed off of M-51 near Pokagon Street Witnesses reported that the motorcycle, driven by Grady, was traveling at a high rate of speed and increased acceleration around the curve. Grady was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained during the collision.
Police have determined that Grady was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and that speed played a factor in the collision. The accident remains under investigation.
