Joseph Bournay, of Bangor

Joseph Bournay, 81, of Bangor, passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.

Joe was born on May 5, 1937, in Niles, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Raab, growing up in Dowagiac and living in Bangor for the majority most of his life.

Joe was a manager for the State Liquor Commission in South Haven, Michigan.

Joe spent two years in the Army as a unit armorer fixing small arms weapons.

He was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing and trapping; when he was not hunting or fishing he enjoyed playing horseshoes and was an avid bowler in the Bangor and South Haven bowling leagues. He enjoyed spending time camping and fishing at Ottawa Lake near Iron River, Michigan. He was an all-around handy man and builder, as he helped his sons build their houses.

Surviving is wife, Wanda (Huston); two sons, Bruce Bournay, of Augusta and Steve Bournay, of South Haven; one grand-daughter Alexis Bournay, and his dog, Shadow. Also surviving are two brothers, James Bournay, of LaPorte, George Bournay, of Dowagiac; one sister, Betty Tomczak, of Dowagiac; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Fred, Bernard and Conrad; sisters, Maryann and Adaline.

According to his wishes cremation has taken place. Memorials can sent to Hanson Hospice Center. A private inurnment will take place with a memorial service to be announced at a later date. Arrangements by the Bangor Chapel, D. L. Miller Funeral Home. dlmillerfuneralhome.com
