DOWAGIAC — The battle for the Wolverine Conference golf championship comes down to 18 holes at Indian Lake Hills Golf Course Oct. 4.
Dowagiac is hosting the league tournament and is one of four teams seeking to win the conference title.
Defending champion Sturgis currently leads the point standings with 16 following the eight league jamborees.
Dowagiac is in second place with 14 points, Plainwell third with 12 and Three Rivers fourth with 10.
The jamborees count for two-thirds and the conference tournament one-third.
At Indian Lake Hills, the winning team will receive eight points, second will record six and so forth.
There are several scenarios for the Chieftains to earn at least piece of the title.
“So, if we win the tournament and get eight points, our total would be 22,” said Dowagiac coach Bob Turner. “I someone else (Plainwell or Allegan) beats Sturgis, we would tie for the conference championship. If both finish ahead of Sturgis, we win outright.”
The Trojans have dominated the conference so far this season, winning all but two of the jamborees.
Plainwell won earlier this year, while Dowagiac edged Sturgis 191-192 earlier this week hosted by Vicksburg.
The league championship is not the only thing on the line again Indian Lake Hills.
The conference medalist crown is up for grabs.
Heidi Hines of Three Rivers is the current leader with a stroke average of 43.7.
Dowagiac’s Rebecca Franklin is nipping at her heels with an average of 45.5, while Emma Franklin of Allegan is third at 46.8.
Dowagiac’s Greta Whitaker currently holds down the final first-team all-conference spot with a stroke average of 51.1. She leads Haley Harper of Plainwell, who is averaging 51.8.
Play is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
