DOWAGIAC — One Dowagiac storefront, currently filled with everything from children’s clothing to home goods to furniture, will soon be empty, locking its doors.
Anything and Everything Outlet, located at The Business Center of Southwest Michigan, 415 E. Prairie Rond St., will close on Sept. 29. The store, owned by couple Dana Hauch and Jason Widger, of Sodus, is a liquidation store that buys overstock or unusable shipments of merchandise from name brand stores such as Target and sells the product for 20 to 80 percent off retail price. The couple also runs an online store and a Facebook group to sell items. Until closing, the store is offering discounts off remaining merchandise.
“This business means a lot to us, and this is really hard right now,” Hauch said. “But we decided this is the right thing for now.”
Hauch and Widger said they are closing due to unforeseen health-related reasons.
“We just aren’t able to have the store open right now,” Widger said. “We need to focus on other things at the moment.”
Despite the fact that they are closing both the in-store and online business for the time being, the couple said that they are hoping to bring the business back in the future.
“Once we take some time off to focus, we will see if [another storefront] is something that we open up later on if space is still available,” Widger said.
Hauch added that she also hopes to reopen the store in the future, as she loves the work she does.
“When I was younger I would go flea markets and auctions with my dad, so this is something that has always been an interesting field to me,” she said. “I love being able to bring people a really good product at a really good price.”
Even if they don’t end up reopening a physical store again, Widger and Hauch said they are proud of the Anything and Everything Outlet and what they have been able to accomplish over the four years they have been in business.
When the couple first opened the Anything and Everything Outlet, they were working out of a 10 ft. by 10 ft. storage unit in Coloma, Michigan. Eventually, they were able to work their way up to the space in The Business Center of Southwest Michigan, which is 10 times larger than the space they started with.
“We are proud that we were able to grow and meet people where they are at,” Widger said. “We are proud that so many people loved the store and told us that they liked what we were doing.”
Though the online business is currently down, Hauch and Widger said they plan to keep followers and customers updated on their Facebook page about the status of Anything and Everything going forward.
“Everything is uncertain right now, as we really just want to focus on the health aspect of our lives,” Widger said. “But our ultimate goal is to not let this get us down. We love doing this, we love the people we have met, and we want to continue providing service to everyone.”
