Cassopolis topples Decatur, White Pigeon

CASSOPOLIS — The Cassopolis volleyball team picked up a pair of 3-1 Southwest 10 Conference victories this week.

The Rangers defeated host Decatur 3-1 on Sept. 13, while it defeated host White Pigeon 3-1 Tuesday night.

“Decatur is always one of our biggest rivals and many times in the past we have fell short and allowed the intensity of the game to get the best of us,” said Cassopolis coach Demi Schrader.  “However, tonight we were able to execute and get the job done. My girls played hard and didn’t let the pressure overcome them. I am so proud of the progress they are making, but we still have a lot of work to do and many things to work on and improve.”

Against the Raiders, Sophie Fiala finished with 17 kills and six blocks, while Maile Barber had 10 kills and 14 digs.

The Rangers also got 14 digs from Lynnzee Armstrong, 12 digs from Kirsten Hartsell and 11 digs from Olivia Purlee.

Gabby Rowen finished the match with 32 assists.

In the match against the Chiefs, Fiala had 14 kills and six blocks, while Barber had 14 kills and 11 digs.

Armstrong finished with 28 digs, Rowan 12 digs and Hartsell 11.

Rowan finished with 28 assists.

The Rangers are back in action tonight against Bloomingdale.
