DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac soccer team improved to 10-3-1 with a 6-1 non-conference victory over Comstock Monday.
The Chieftains led 3-1 at halftime on a pair of Cristian Wilson goals and Isaac Saavedra’s goal.
Comstock grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by Evan Veenhaus in the opening minute.
Wilson tied the match with the first of his two goals in the fifth minute and then scored the winning goal in the 18th minute.
Saavedra’s goal came in the 29th minute.
“As you can see in the scoring we got off to a slow start and was not ready to go on the whistle,” said Dowagiac coach Mike Williams. “After getting scored on in the first minute we woke up and began playing with more intensity and communication. We have to play better than that as we get into the meat of our conference schedule.”
In the second half, Matt Mosier had a pair of goals, which sandwiched a goal by John Hassle.
Mosier opened the second-half scoring with a goal off an assist by Cole Parker in the 45th minute.
Hassle made it 5-1 in the 54th minute off an assist by Wilson before Mosier notched his second score of the night in the 62nd minute off the assist by Parker.
The Chieftains return to the pitch Wednesday as they travel to Allegan for a Wolverine Conference match.
Edwardsburg soccer
The Eddies stepped out of Wolverine Conference action and picked up a 4-0 win over visiting Berrien Springs Monday.
Anthony Castelluci had a pair of goals for Edwardsburg, which also got goals from Ian Wagner and Ben Kraus.
Kraus and Wagner traded assists on their goals, while Nate Bessinger assisted on Castelluci’s second goal.
The Eddies, now 4-5-2 on the year, return to action Wednesday when they host Paw Paw in a conference match.
Brandywine soccer
Visiting South Haven scored three goals in each half en route to a 6-0 non-conference win over Brandywine Monday.
The Bobcats showed improvement over last year’s meeting with the Rams, which ended with South Haven winning 8-0 in a match stopped at halftime.
Brandywine started one senior, three juniors, three sophomores and four freshmen against the Rams.
Goalkeeper Bryce Taberski missed the second half due to injury, but should be ready to go when the Bobcats travel to Parchment for a BSC Athletic Conference match on Wednesday.
Niles soccer
Host Niles was shut out by Portage Northern 6-0 in SMAC soccer action last Thursday.
The Huskies led 2-0 at halftime.
Cam Adams had a pair of goals for Portage Northern.
