Buchanan District Library to host presentation on the Whitney Plantation

BUCHANAN — John D. VanDyke, local educator and academic on Whitney Plantation in Edgard, Louisiana, will give a special presentation on the topic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. The presentation is free and open to the public.
The Whitney Plantation is a museum on the grounds of a former working plantation and is dedicated to providing education on the history of slavery in the United States. It is the only museum plantation focused on the experience of slavery. VanDyke will also present his research on the Quaker line of the Underground Railroad.
