Dowagiac, Cass pick up league wins

DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac soccer team opened up Wolverine Conference play with a 2-1 victory over visiting Vicksburg Wednesday.

At Edwardsburg, the Eddies and Allegan settled for a 3-3 draw.

In Southwest 10 Conference play, Cassopolis edged host Bangor 2-1.

Cristian Wilson gave Dowagiac a 1-0 lead on the Bulldogs in the second minute off the assist from Cole Parker.

The score remained that way for the final 38 minutes of the opening half.

Vicksburg’s Joe Brady tied it at 1-1 20 minutes into the second half before Matt Mosier scored the match-winning goal in the 78th minute.

It was Mosier’s third goal in two days, while Wilson scored for the eighth time in three matches.

Dowagiac outshot Vicksburg 28-6.

The Chieftains return to action Tuesday when they host Niles in a non-conference match.

Edwardsburg soccer

Sylas Krueger, Aaron Toms and Ian Wagner all scored for the Eddies, who are now 2-4-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the Wolverine Conference.

Ben Kraus assisted on the first two goals, while Jake Stewart assisted on the Wagner score.

Cassopolis soccer

Cassopolis erased a 1-0 halftime lead with a pair of second-half goals against the Vikings.

Niklas Dittman tied the match at 1-1 in the 49th minute, while Brett Williams got the winning goal in the 62nd minute.

Both teams finished with nine shots on goal.

The Ranges are back on the pitch Monday when they travel to Hartford for another Southwest 10 Conference match.

Cassopolis returns home when it hosts Bloomingdale on Sept. 12.
