NILES — The Dowagiac soccer team came away with a 4-0 victory over host Brandywine on Tuesday in a match that was much more lopsided than the final score indicates.
The Chieftains (7-3) scored just 1:12 into the non-conference match, but were unable to find the back of the net for the remaining 38 minutes.
Dowagiac had to settle for the one-goal halftime advantage.
Heat and humidity played a role in the match. A water break midway through each have were given by the officials.
Cristian Wilson got the Chieftains on the board in the second minute, his seven goal in the past two matches.
In the second half, Dowagiac got a pair of goals from Matt Mosier in the 44th and 53rd minutes before Adrian Lee finished the scoring with a goal in the 54th minute.
Mosier assisted on the Wilson goal, while Gustavo Cruz and Edgar Bravo assisted on the Mosier goals.
“We were rusty off of a four-day break,” said Dowagiac coach Mike Williams. “But we stepped it up the second half and played with more intensity.”
The Chieftains were back on the pitch Wednesday when it hosted Vicksburg in a Wolverine Conference match.
