NILES - When students enter high school it's a time when many start thinking about what they would like to pursue upon graduation. Ninth grade students at Niles High School are getting a little help in trying to make that difficult decision as they move through high school.
Since 1998 Niles High School has been a Career Pathways school. As freshman, the students go through the freshman connection class which helps to prepare to choose a pathway which they will continue through the remainder of their high school career.
In freshman connection we teach different rotations on topics the teachers feel is important for them to understand, Fuller said.
In Fuller's rotations she focuses on having different members of the professional community come in and speak about different job fields.
On Thursday, Rick McKeel, CEO of the New Carbon Company in South Bend, visited Fuller's class to talk about what it's like to run a company.
McKeel answered questions the students had about running a company, from what type of schooling does one need for this type of job, to how much money can you make.
McKeel also shared tips which employers are often looking for in people they hire.
When hiring someone, we are looking for a person who is organized, is a good communicator, has great writing skills, can work well with people, is motivated, can type well and can speak publicly, McKeel said.
