NILES — The Niles Salvation Army is again hosting the annual Back to School Backpack Giveaway on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 424 N 15th St. in Niles. This program is available to all students in the Niles, Brandywine, and Buchanan School Districts, as well as all school districts in Cass County.

The backpacks will be filled with age appropriate school supplies for grades kindergarten through 12th grade.

This year, to make it easier for Cass County residents, the Niles Salvation Army is hosting an additional program at Cassopolis First Church of God, 21083 Spencer Road in Cassopolis on Friday, Aug. 31 and Saturday, Sept. 1.

The hours for the program give away at the Niles location will be 9 a.m. to noon and from 1  to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30. The hours of operation for the distribution in Cassopolis will be from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 in Cassopolis.

Parents will need to bring their picture ID, social security card for each student, and proof of which school the student will be attending.

No appointment is needed. Parents will be seen on a walk-in basis. People can come to either location during the time of the giveaway, fill out the application, provide the needed documents and receive the bags. The distribution will be distributed on a first come, first served basis as long as supplies last.
