DOWAGIAC — Front Street in Dowagiac was transformed into a fun zone this weekend, with children running around, delicious smells from food trucks filling the air and live music playing in the background.
Dowagiac’s 33rd annual Summer in the City Festival, hosted by the Greater Dowagiac Area Chamber of Commerce, took place this weekend. The festival boasted a number of attractions, including street vendors, a zip line, rock climbing wall, dunk-a-cop, games, food, concerts and a children’s carnival.
The festival hit a snag when heavy rain and a tornado watch was issued Friday night resulting in the cancellation of the festival’s planned beer tent and a concert by the Kari Lynch Band.
Despite the challenges of this year’s festival, Vickie Phillipson, program director for the festival, said she remained optimist and that people enjoyed the festival.
Her statement seemed to ring true as people were right back at the festival for the final two days of events.
