EDWARDSBURG — An assortment of lawn chairs, colorful blankets and music-loving Michiana residents will soon spread out across the grass at the Edwardsburg Sports Complex.

The ESC will host its second performance in its outdoor summer concert series at 7 p.m. tomorrow.

“These usually will be on the third Friday of every month in the summer,” said the ESC manager Patty Patzer. “Except for in September, where it will be on the third Saturday.”

Tomorrow, the band Hideous Business will perform hits dating from the 1960s through today. They are a rock and blues show band that has been together since 2011. The cost to attend is $10 per vehicle, with the price being the same whether there is one person or five in the vehicle. Attendees can bring their own food and beverages.

Hideous Business consists of five different members, including Jenna Richard Harrington from Granger, who is the group’s lead vocalist. The band has committed to playing for two hours, but Patzer said that most groups like to play a little bit longer than that.

The outdoor summer concert series is an initiative by the ESC to host and be a part of events that have nothing to do with sports.

“We’ve considered other possibilities,” Patzer said. “People have talked to us about car shows or a drive-in movie theater, so there are definitely different things that can be held on this property. For instance, on the Aug. 24, we will have the Lions Club Circus — Kelly Miller Circus will be here on the property as well.”

Patzer said that the organization decided to host events after realizing that it has enough space to be utilized by other events and activities. The ESC is also considering hosting festivals and other gatherings for community members and organizations.

The next concert will be at the same time on Friday, Aug. 18, featuring the band Pearl.

The last performance of the series will be a solo act Emilee Allan.

“She’s playing in September and is a local Edwardsburg graduate and resident, who now lives in Nashville,” Patzer said. “I understand she has recorded a couple of CDs, so she was excited to come home and play for family and friends and the local community.”

The first band to play in the series was the local group Little Something in June.

“This is the second year that they have played for us. We only did one concert last year and it was with them,” Patzer said. “They wanted to come back again, and they said they’d continue to come and play one of the series each year. They would like to support us and are interested in coming back year after year.”
