Volunteer of the Week: Sue Fuller, of Niles

Sue Fuller, of Niles, has volunteered as a receptionist for the Pregnancy Care Center for nearly 16 years.
What do you do for the Pregnancy
Care Center?
I work as a receptionist. I enter the notes that the counselors make when they speak to our clients. That is mostly what I do. Of course, I answer the phone and I greet the clients and that type of thing.
What motivated you to get involved as a
volunteer for the Pregnancy Care Center?
Someone had been asking me to do that, but I was working in South Bend at the time and it was difficult for me to get back to Niles in time to volunteer. After I retired, there was not really much reason that I could not do that. I went ahead and applied to be a volunteer and it is just an awesome, awesome place.
What do you enjoy most about your volunteer work?
Hearing the success stories of the clients and also the people I work with. Everyone gets along really well. It’s great to see the clients grow as mothers. It’s great to see them bring in their babies. Many of our clients virtually have almost nothing and they earn dollars they can spend in our boutique. They can get everything from diapers and clothing to a crib.
How do you feel the Pregnancy Care Center helps the Niles community?
We offer all types of material goods [to pregnant moms]. They attend classes which are helpful if they have not been around babies. We also offer spiritual classes for them. People can come to us for emergency formula and diapers. Like I said, the classes are invaluable to new mommies.
Why would you encourage other people to sign up and volunteer?
It is just an awesome place to be. If you are a volunteer, the organization is very flexible. It’s a commitment, however you are not tied to it.
