NILES — Summer My Way campers were pretty busy during their third week of the program. Youth worked to help their community by creating blankets to donate to the Pregnancy Care Center. They also learned some new skills, like how to research for a presentation.

Youth also took part in an “ooey gooey” craft and created elephant toothpaste — a concoction of dry yeast, dish soap and food coloring.

The Summer My Way program is hosted by the YMCA of Southwest Michigan. The day camp is cost-free to children and is financially supported by community partners. In addition to engaging in hands on learning programs throughout the six-week program, campers also get two free meals every day. Camp is based out of Northside Child Development Center, 2020 N. Fifth St.

Campers posed for a photo after helping to host a luncheon last week for community partners and local politicians. (Submitted photo)
