Civil War veterans’ graves to receive markers during Civil War Days

THREE OAKS — The Rebecca Dewey Chapter of Three Oaks, NSDAR, will be dedicating three Civil War Veteran’s new grave markers at 6 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Shedd Cemetery on Spring Creek Road, south of Three Oaks.

Chapter Members have been working with records and historical documentation of this tiny cemetery in their efforts of restoration and preservation for these burial grounds.  A first historical tour of this cemetery is planned for 1 p.m. July 29, during the Civil War Days in Three Oaks. Three soldiers whose grave markers have been missing for some time, have received new markers from the Bureau of Veterans affairs.  Pvt. John Redman, Pvt. Thomas Bock and Corp. Benjamin Platts will be honored with an invocation, rights and ceremony by the Sons of Union Veteran’s Camp 85 of Bridgman, reenactors camped at Dewey Cannon Park, and the Rebecca Dewey Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.  The public and any family members of these veteran’s are welcome to attend.
