Two-car crash ends in police pursuit in Milton Township

MILTON TOWNSHIP — The investigation of a personal injury accident turned into a police chase Wednesday evening, when a suspect attempted to flee the scene of a crash in Milton Township, according to Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke.

The crash occurred around 7:41 p.m. on US-12 near Conrad Road, when two vehicles were involved in a rear end collision. No one was seriously injured.

One of the drivers was David Eugene Dale, 47, of Niles. The other driver, a 26-year-old Niles resident, drove away from the scene when officers arrived. Police pursued this driver until the vehicle crashed on Dailey Road near Jefferson Center Road. The driver was placed under arrest. The suspect was transported by LifeCare ambulance to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac for possible injuries. It is unknown if seatbelts were worn during this crash. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash, according to police.

Authorities said the incident remains under investigation. The second driver’s name is being withheld at this time pending results of the investigation.

The assisting agencies included Ontwa Township/Edwardsburg Police Department, LifeCare Ambulance, Edwardsburg Fire Department and Cass Central Fire Department.
