Niles’ Brown finishes second in 400-meters

ZEELAND — Jordan Brown had himself a day at the Division 2 state track final at Zeeland High School Saturday.

The Niles senior finished runner-up in the 400-meters with a personal best time of 49.85.

Brown was also a member of the Vikings’ all-state 800-meter relay team that finished fifth with a time of 1:31.13. Owen Gardner, Isiah Johnson and Austin Brookins were the other members of the squad.

Brown, Johnson, Devin Tomlinson and Javon Ball just missed out on all-state by placing ninth in the 1,600-meter relay with a season-best time of 3:29.97.

Brown was also 10th in the 200-meters with a personal best time of 22.69 as Niles finished 16th.

Josh Norris finished 15th in the 110-meter high hurdles and Johnson was 17th in the 100-meters with times of 15.78 and 11.78 respectively.

Edwardsburg’s Jack Knoll earned all-state honors in the high jump with a leap of 20-6.75, which was good for seventh-place.

Knoll also finished tied for 10th in the high jump with teammate Adam Treadway. Both cleared 6-2. Knoll finished 15th in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 41.52.

In the girls’ portion of the meet, Edwardsburg’s Cameron Cleveland earned all-state as an individual and as a member of the Eddies’ 1,600-meter relay team.

In the 800-meters, Cleveland broke the Edwardsburg school record for a fourth time with a clocking of 2:19.53, which was good for eighth place.

She joined Jocelyn Hack, Alexa Markel and Kaitlyn Zarycki to run a time of 4:09.72, which was also good for eighth place.

Niles’ Kaylee Thompson also set a new school record as she posted a time of 5:20.13 to finish 16th in the 1,600-meter run.

Division 3

COMSTOCK PARK — Brandywine’s Bryce McClane finished 14th in the 1,600-meters with a time of 4:40.93 and Robert Gordon finished 19th in the 100-meters with a time of 11.62.

Division 4

HUDSONVILLE — Cassopolis’ Amy Adams finished ninth in the 1,600-meter run, just missing out on all-state with a time of 5:31.07. She finished 14th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:34.01 and 16th in the 3,200-meters with a time of 12:35.34.

The Rangers’ Tammea McNeal finished sixth in the shot put to earn all-state with a toss of 34-11.5.
