Dowagiac finishes fifth at regionals

DOWAGIAC — Host Dowagiac finished fifth at the Division 3 golf regional at Hampshire Country Club Thursday.
Schoolcraft won the regional championship with a total of 331, while Hillsdale finished second with a 339 and Lake Odessa Lakewood was third with a 351.
The top three teams, plus the top three individuals not on a qualifying team, advance to next weekend’s state finals at Forest Akers West on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing.
Grant Baker of Jonesville earned medalist honors with a 76, while Buchanan freshman John Gartland and Berrien Springs’ Blake Rudlaff both shot 82 to earn the three individual spots into the state finals.
Dowagiac finished with a team total of 363, while Buchanan finished in 12th place with a 406 and Brandywine 15th with a 463.
The Chieftains were led by Drew Davis, who shot 84. Matt Mosier shot 89, Nick Saltzman 93, Drew Phillips 97 and Lewis Hartsig 105.
Besides Gartland, the Bucks got a 101 from Bryce Leazenby, a 102 from Ethan Valentine and a 121 from Jacob Aalfs.
Jordan Mickiewicz shot 98 to lead the Bobcats. Grant Lerner shot 112, Jacob Burge shot 119, Jaedon Waggoner 134 and Reese McKee 138.
