The Niles District Library seeks to build a community of lifelong learners who want to make Niles their lifelong home. A library card is not required to participate in any programs. All programs are free.

Tuesday, May 29
• 10:30 a.m. – Passport Pals
This is activity is a story time tour of the world. Each week, we will have books, songs, a craft, and other super surprises relating to the special country of the month.
• 1 to 2:30 p.m. — Triple P: Primary Care
This class is for parents who wish to learn a variety of parenting skills that will promote their child’s development and potential.
• 5 to 8 p.m. — SkillShare Open Shop
SkillShare is a program that seeks to serve as both an action and a place. Library officials have created a workshop space downstairs for community members to share skills like patching drywall, fixing a leaky faucet, repairing small appliances, sewing, crafts, and hobbies. Anyone is welcome to drop in for this event.
• 6 to 6:30 p.m. — Chips and Chapters
This is activity is a read aloud storytime. Every Tuesday, Ms. Tara will read aloud from a chapter book, while participants eat chips and follow along. This activity is for all ages.
• 6 to 7 p.m. — Can I Be a Foster Parent?
In honor of National Foster Care Month, the library will welcome Heather Hoffman from Berrien County DHHS to speak about what Berrien County residents can do to become a licensed foster home.
Wednesday, May 30
• Multiple times – Storytime day
Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m., squeakers (18 months-3 years) at 10 a.m., squigglers (18 months-5 years) at 10:30 a.m., story time (children ages 3+) at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
• 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Kinexus Hiring Event- French Paper Co.
The community is welcome to stop by the library to learn more about how to join the French Paper team.
• 1 to 4 p.m. — Michigan Works/ Kinexus
Talent Development Specialists can help people register for unemployment, evaluate their strengths and skills, edit or help update a resume, sharpen interview skills and more.
• 5 to 7 p.m. — Triple P Family Transition: Coping with Emotions
This class will assist in separation, co-parenting and divorce. Those who attend will learn about the key principles to promoting a positive outcome for their child following divorce or separation. Please RSVP by calling (269) 927-5622.
• 7 to 8 p.m. — CDA Niles
Chemically Dependent Anonymous is a 12-step fellowship for anyone seeking freedom from drug and alcohol addiction. CDA do not make distinctions in the recovery process based on any particular substance. The basis of our program is abstinence from all mood-changing and mind-altering chemicals, including street-type drugs, alcohol, and unnecessary medication.
Thursday, May 31
• 10 a.m. to noon — Special Edition: Movie Day
This summer there will be a movie watching every other Thursday. All ages and abilities are welcome to this sensory sensitive showing. The volume isn’t too loud, and there’s room at the back for those who prefer not to sit still. Popcorn will be hot and fresh.
• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — The Connection
As Berrien County’s Housing Resource Center, The Connection provides a centralized intake that works together with the consumer to rapidly re-house those who are homeless.
• 10:30 and 1:30 p.m. — Storytime
Storytime features three books, a color song, and music and movement. The program will end with a hand stamp, coloring sheet and a craft.
• 1 to 4:30 p.m. — Mahjong
Volunteers are available weekly to teach people how to play Mahjong.
• 6 to 7:30 p.m. — Teen Time
Come and hang out. There are games, books, and a great place to study here in the new Teen Department. Snacks will be provided.
• CANCELED — Single Parenting Care (all summer sessions have been canceled)
Friday, June 1
• 9:30 a.m. to noon — TOPS
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a nonprofit, noncommercial weight-loss support group and wellness education organization. TOPS offers tools and programs for healthy living and weight management, with exceptional group fellowship and recognition. Established in 1948 to champion weight-loss support and success, TOPS has helped millions of people live healthier lives. New members are welcome.
• 1 to 3 p.m. — Twisted Stitches
Community members are welcome to bring a yarn or sewing project and enjoy a hot beverage while they chat and work. Rookies are welcome. David, the teacher, is here to provide help and instructions, and a few loaner tools are available to those new to the craft.
Saturday, June 2
• 10 a.m. to noon — Chess Club
Love to play chess? This group meets twice monthly to play, on the first and third Saturdays. All ages and abilities are welcome. Do not know how to play?
• 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Chess Tournament
Chess Tourney for all members of the National Chess Federation. Game boards are available for non-members as well.
• 10:30 a.m. to noon — TreeClimbers Genealogy Group
Community members are welcome to get started on the journey of uncovering their family history. No experience is required to participate in the TreeClimbers group; beginners are welcome.
• 4 to 5 p.m. — SkillShare: Restoring/ Maintaining Cast Iron Cookware
Matthew will show people how to get their cast iron ready to use. Bring a pan or two from home that needs help. All other materials will be provided.
• The Niles District Library will host an Adult Summer Reading Program “Libraries Rock.” The program will begin Monday, June 4 and end on Saturday, Aug. 25. Anyone ages 18 and up is welcome to participate. There will be grand prize drawings Monday, Aug. 27.
