DOWAGIAC — Visiting Dowagiac took out a year of frustrations on Allegan in a Wolverine Conference softball sweep Tuesday.
The Chieftains blasted the Tigers 16-6 and 11-1 to improve to 4-18 on the year.
“We played two pretty good games last night,” said Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke. “We hit the ball well and were solid defensively. Jessie threw strikes in the first game to get outs and Amiyah was dominant in the second game. Anna crushed the ball over their 220-foot centerfield fence for her first career varsity home run.”
Dowagiac finished with eight hits in the first game, including three by Greta Whitaker.
Dobberstein doubled and drove in two runs, while Taylore Froehlich finished with four RBIs.
Madison Potter and Jessie Hulett both had a pair of RBIs.
Hulett was also the winning pitcher as she allowed five runs on nine hits with nine strikeouts.
The Chieftains finished with eight more hits in the nightcap.
Amiyah Smith was 3-for-5 with an RBI, while Hulett singled, doubled and drove in a run.
Dobberstein homered for Dowagiac. Froehlich and Potter both drove in two runs.
Smith was the winning pitcher as she allowed four hits and struck out eight.
The Chieftains host St. Joseph in a non-league doubleheader at 4 p.m. Thursday.
