NILES - When the Niles Community Schools Board of Education finally votes on the official language to be placed on the ballot for the Feb. 28, 2006, election for a new high school and renovations and additions to existing buildings the cost will be lower than first projected.
Law said this new figure won't change the amount of seven mills which the residents would be voting on but would just shorten the payment term and level off the seven mills a bit earlier.
Law and Niles Community Schools Business and Finance Director Bob Wright spent Wednesday in Lansing going over the district's bond proposal application with officials at the Michigan State Department of Treasury. The treasury department went over the district's application to ensure everything is in order and that the district isn't asking for funds to build something which is larger than what they need.
At Monday evenings Board of Education meeting, which is to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Oak Manor Sixth Grade Center, the Board will be asked to approve the application for preliminary qualification of bonds for participation in the Michigan School Bond Qualification and Loan Program.
The treasury department does have the power to say the building in which the district is looking to close don't need to be, but Law feels confident in the district's plans to close Eastside School, Cedar Lane, Westside and Ellis.
Those wishing to vote in the Feb. 28, election must be registered by Jan. 30.
At Monday's meeting the board will also be asked to approve the purchase of three, 30 passenger mini-buses through the Michigan School Business Officials Bus Purchase Cooperative Program.
The buses will be purchased from Cardinal Bus Sales, of Lima, Ohio for the sum of $125,622.
Finally as the meeting is being held at Oak Manor Sixth Grade Center, Principal Robin Hadrick, along with students and teachers will be giving the Board a tour and demonstration of their new high tech classrooms.
