Dowagiac splits with Buchanan

DOWAGIAC — The first Saturday in May finally produced spring-like weather for the Frazier Memorial Tournament at Rotary Park.

Due to the fact that only two teams were available to play, Buchanan hosted Dowagiac in a doubleheader.

The visiting Bucks won the opening game 6-4 before the Chieftains rebounded to earn a split with a 7-2 victory in the second contest.

Buchanan opened up a 5-0 lead through four and a half innings in the first game and then held off a late Dowagiac rally to earn the victory.

Dowagiac scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and bottom of the fifth to cut the Bucks’ advantage to 5-4.

Buchanan added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Dylan Colglazier and Jacob Clayton combined to scatter seven hits with Colglazier getting the start and the victory.

A.J. Kidd started for the Chieftains and suffered the loss. Hunter Williamson came on in relief in the fourth inning.

Adeen Harrington, Brad VanOverberghe and Kade Hearington all had two hits for Buchanan. Hearington and VanOverberghe both had doubles.

Brenden Dudley and Tyler Huston both had two hits. Dudley and Williamson both doubled for the Chieftains.

Dowagiac jumped out to a 5-0 lead on the Bucks in the second game and cruised to the victory.

Hunter Brackensick went the distance to earn the victory for the Chieftains.

Dowagiac finished with 12 hits, including a 3-for-4 performance from Dudley with a pair of doubles.

Schreiber also had three hits, including a double.

Gannon Kutemeier suffered the loss for Buchanan.

Jacob Hoover went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs. Hearington added a pair of singles.
