BENTON HARBOR — Michigan’s Cottage Food Law, which took effect July 2010, will allow those with an entrepreneurial spirit the opportunity to sell certain homemade food products to the public.
To learn more, those interested can attend How to Start a Successful Cottage Food Business.
The event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Berrien County Michigan State University Extension, 1737 Hillandale Road, Benton Harbor.
The session combines the business and food safety aspects of preparing and selling cottage foods safely and successfully. At these workshops, participants will find out what foods can be legally produced as well as how to label and sell them. Additionally, they will learn food safety practices to ensure that they are producing a wholesome product that people will want to buy.
This session does not address foods that require commercial licensing such as salsa, pickles, barbeque sauces, or anything containing meat or dairy.
