Martha Schaller is a freshman on the Dowagiac soccer team.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
MS: Making a premier travel team.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
MS: Losing a close championship game.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
MS: My middle school soccer coach Rob True.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
MS: During the National Anthem.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
MS: I scored on my own goal while playing defense.
How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?
MS: By running and working on ball control.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
MS: Track.
Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?
MS: They keep you in shape while teaching responsibility and team building.
How would you give away $50,000?
MS: I would give it to my church.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
MS: The middle school girls soccer team.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
MS: Write more.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
MS: Kicking corner kicks.
If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?
MS: Offsides.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
MS: That I am a very skilled player and can play in college.
What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?
MS: Trying out for a travel soccer team. Yes, I’m glad I did it.
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
MS: Bend in a corner kick against the wind.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
MS: Writing because I can express myself freely.
