NILES - Construction of the new Niles-Buchanan YMCA at the corner of North Front and Pokagon streets is moving along at a good pace.
Sometime next week, crews will be digging on the site to place the foundation and begin laying the cement blocks which will form the foundation, Hendrie added.
Construction will continue through the winter months and phase one should be completed sometime next November.
Fundraising efforts for the project are ongoing and those who wish to still contribute should contact Bret Hendrie at (269) 683-1552.
The project was originally to begin sometime last year, but construction was put off as the cost of building materials rose from when the project was first proposed.
Currently the cost of building materials has been locked in and the cost of the project won't change.
The lot where we are building the new YMCA already looks so much better when the excavation work which has been done and with the addition of the building will look even better, Hendrie said.
