WATERVLIET — The Dowagiac Middle School wrestling team wrapped up its season on the road at Watervliet last Friday.

“We wrestled well, but you could tell it was the end of the season,” Dowagiac coach Andy Crawley said. “It took us to the second round to catch fire, but I’m proud of our wrestlers. The Dowagiac wrestling program is heading back in the right direction. I hope they had fun and will continue to wrestle. We would like to thank all the parents for their help on Saturdays and for letting us coach their young athletes.”

Winning gold at the invitational for the Chieftains were Jordan Simpson and Aaron Lucio. Claiming silver were Noah Phillips, Dustin Sirk, Karsen Kinyon, Korey Kinyon, Lucas Szymczak, Taven Livingston, Brayan Paredes, Roman Saldana, Braqsten Whitaker and Johnathan Phillips.

Bringing home the bronze were Marcus Haskins, D.J. Rimpson, Andrue Dayson, Shane Bennett and Nicholas Green.

Crawley is looking forward to seeing what his eighth-graders will do next year as members of the Dowagiac high school wrestling team.

“Great season guys,” he said. “See you next year.”

On Feb. 27, Dowagiac traveled to Niles and won 15 out of 29 matches.

“We are looking better heading toward the end of the season,” Crawley said. “That was our main goal and for the kids to have fun.”

Winning two matches on the night were Karsen Kinyon, Korey Kinyon, Lucio, and Livingston. Also picking up wins were Haskins, Rimpson, Simpson, Sirk and Jayden Carpenter.
