NILES - Niles' Samantha Brawley and Brandywine's Matt Beaver, Kyle Low and Matt Wieger have been chosen as the Niles Daily Star Athletes of the Week for Oct. 24-29.
Brawley, a sophomore on the Vikings cross country team, finished 10th overall on Oct. 29 in the Division 2 meet held at Portage West Middle School with a time of 20:07
The finish earned Brawley another ticket to this year's state cross country fnals, making her the lone state finalist from her team agian this year.
Although the Bobcat's entire soccer team contributed to their win against Bridgman on Oct. 26, Beaver, Low and Wieger shined and contributed many needed plays in order for Brandywine to advance to the district final game.
Wieger assisted Beaver on the first goal of the game against the Bees in the first half when he chipped the ball to Beaver, who slipped between two defenders and slid a left footed shot past the goalie.
In the second half, it was Beaver who took a free kick and placed it just over the Bridgman defense to Wieger, who dove and headed the ball on goal, The Bees' goalie got a piece of the ball, but it rolled to Low, who buried it in the back of the net bringing to score to 2-0.
