Roundup: Dowagiac 4-1 at Vicksburg; Niles second at Southwest Classic

ALLEGAN — The Niles wrestling team tied with Lakeshore for second place at the Southwest Michigan Classic hosted by Allegan Saturday.

State powerhouse Lowell ran away with the team title as it scored 248 points.

The Vikings and Lancers were runners-up with 170 points, while Hudson was fourth with 158 and Mendon fifth with 126.

Earning championships for Niles were Ryan Franco at 112 pounds and Austin Franco at 119 points.

Robert Glover and Davin Simpson were both second at 145 and 160 pounds respectively.

Jamison Zimmerman was third at 103.

Dowagiac 4-1 at Vicksburg

VICKSBURG — The Dowagiac wrestling team went 4-1 at the Vicksburg Invitational on Saturday.

The Chieftains (6-1) defeated Decatur 63-6, Three Rivers 51-17, Martin 42-34 and Coloma 57-15.

The lone Dowagiac loss came to Schoolcraft 48-27.

Going 5-0 on the day for the Chieftains were Kody Walker (119), Alex McIntosh (135) and Justin Lyle (189).

Posting 4-1 records for Dowagiac were Jesse Edge (125) and Xander Keller (152).
