Dick H. Rutledge, 79, of Niles, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, in South Bend,

He was born on Aug. 26, 1938, in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Dick and Helen (Horn) Rutledge.

Dick served his country proudly in the U.S. Marines. He married Fran Hagood at a ceremony in Indiana. The couple had six children and although the marriage ended in divorce, Dick and Fran were the best of friends until the very end. He was a retired truck driver for Preston Truck Lines #151.

He enjoyed time spent bowling, target shooting, cooking and spending time at flea markets. He was a coin and book collector and was known to finish several books a week throughout his entire life. Dick mostly enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his children, Dick, Douglas and Scot Rutledge; his sister, Sharon Mills.

Dick is survived by his lifetime companion, Fran Hagood of Niles; his children, Pamela Rutledge, Donald Rutledge and Dawn Rutledge; four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Ann Marie) Bailey, Corey Bailey, Hayley Rutledge-Cameron and Gage Rutledge-Horvath; Three great-grandchildren and a brother, Tim (Nadine) Rutledge.

In keeping with Dick’s wishes, he will be remembered privately by his family.
